Our Services
Toll-free Number: 1-866-486-2275 or 1-866-GVMABRK
GAB, Inc. offers families and service providers a statewide toll-free number available 24 hours a day they can access to receive information on RESPITE in their communities or throughout the state. Respite can also be considered a state of mind. Callers will be surveyed regarding other stressors or triggers for stress in their lives. When possible, additional community resources will be offered above and beyond respite.
This number is answered by contracted staff and Board members. All persons answering the line have received extensive training in crisis management and the available respite and other resources in the state.
Training Respite Care Providers
GAB, Inc. has trained 125 providers since 2000. This training includes basic disability awareness including the Americans with Disability Act, ethical issues including confidentiality and risk management, people first language, activities to do with clients, interviewing potential clients to ensure that clients’ needs are met, First Aide, CPR, and more. Contracted staff, board members, former respite providers, and families themselves come together to provide this valuable training.
Community Respite Program Days
A Community Respite Program Day is a day where community members, organizations, and businesses come together to support families in their community.
GAB, Inc. will provide five (5) hours of respite care monthly for up to 50 people, for a potential total of 250 contact hours each event. The highest level of care will be provided including personal care, snacks and lunch, activities, and the opportunity to socialize with members of their community that they might otherwise not be able to do. We will utilize 25 – 50 volunteers that include contracted staff, board members, trained respite care providers, and screened local volunteers.
